Tuition Calculator 2021-22

To assist you in planning for the coming school year, our team has created our 2021-22 Tuition Calculator for New York Charter Schools. 

You can access the calculator here. Note: these rates have been updated to match the actual 2021-22 Charter School Tuition rates released on 5/21/2021 by SED. For almost all sending districts, our estimates were within $1 of the actuals. Regardless, we encourage you to use the calculator below to re-run your numbers, and to reach out with any questions.

An explanation of the formula and calculation example appear below. If you have any questions, or would like to calculate tuition for a district that does not appear in our calculator, please email info@nycharters.net 

2021-2022 Charter School Basic Tuition is calculated by:

Charter school tuition for 2021-22 will be the lesser of either:

     A.          The product of:

           i.     Charter school basic tuition for the previous year;

           ii.   The average of quotients of approved operating expense divided by the previous year’s operating expense for the sending district for the 2019-20, 2018-18, and 2017-18; 

           OR 

     B.       2019-20 Total General Fund Expenditures for the sending district divided by 2019-20 enrollment for the sending district. Note that this did not apply for any of the sending districts for which we calculated tuition.

Example  

For Example School District:

• Charter school basic tuition for 2020-21 = $13,200
• The Quotients for the 3 years prior to the base year are:
  • Quotient of 17-18 AOE/15-16 AOE = 1.0022
  • Quotient of 18-19 AOE/16-17 AOE = 0.9918
  • Quotient of 19-20 AOE/17-18 AOE = 1.0305

2021-22 Tuition for Example School District is: the lesser of either:

A.          The product of:

           i.      Charter school basic tuition for the previous year = $13,200; and

           ii.  The average of quotients of approved operating expense divided by the previous year’s operating expense for the sending district for the 2018-19, 2017-18, and 2016-17 (1.0022+0.9918+103.05)/3 = 1.0082

                               A = $13,200 x 1.0082= $13,308

           OR 

     B.     2018-19 Total General Fund Expenditures for the sending district $871,193,084 divided by 2018-18 enrollment for the sending district 40504.

                               B = $871,193,084/405045 = $21,509

The lesser of A or B is $13,308
