New York has lost a fierce and dedicated advocate for Black, Brown and poor communities. His belief that all children deserve quality education fueled his challenges to the educational establishment and demand that they are held accountable. The legacy of his work is the tireless fight for justice and equity, the barriers he broke down and doors he opened for countless people. He was a friend and he will be deeply missed.
