The U.S. Department of Education recently announced that Bronx Charter School for Excellence 2 is among those named as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023.

Bronx Excellence 2 is one of 353 schools nationwide–23 of which are public charter schools–to receive the award this year for either exemplary academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps.

“The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise the Bar in education,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “The leaders, educators, and staff at our National Blue Ribbon Schools continually inspire me with their dedication to fostering academic excellence and building positive school cultures that support students of all backgrounds to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”

Established in 2016, Bronx Excellence 2 is a free, charter public K-8 school network serving the Morris Park neighborhood of Bronx, NY. The Excellence Community Schools prepare young people in New York City and Stamford, CT,* to compete for admission to and succeed in top public, private and parochial high schools by cultivating their intellectual, artistic, social, emotional, and ethical development. They do so by offering a challenging and rigorous academic curriculum, which at the earliest of grades has an eye toward college preparation.

Bronx Excellence 2 currently serves more than 460 scholars.

“We are so proud of the entire Bronx Excellence community,” said Anna Hall, Chief Executive Officer of the Northeast Charter Schools Network. “To be named a Blue Ribbon School is a significant achievement, and something that only comes from the hard work and commitment of an entire school community. The students, families and staff at Bronx Excellence are to be commended for their dedication to success and we congratulate them on this exciting honor.”

* NYCSA would also like to congratulate Stamford Excellence, part of The Excellence Community Schools and located in Stamford, CT, for also being named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School.
