A virtual meeting of the New York State Board of Regents was held yesterday, February 8th, 2021. We will post the recording of this meeting on our Authorizer Update page as soon as it becomes available.
In recognition of Black History Month, the Board opened this month’s meeting with a discussion on its action plan to address racial disparities in medicine.
This discussion was followed by a debrief of the 2021-2022 Executive Budget. The discussion around this presentation mainly focused on individual board members’ concerns regarding the Governor’s proposed cuts to state aid and what the Board can do to advocate against them.
Full Board Meeting
During this month’s meeting, the Board wished Vice-Chancellor Brown farewell as he transitions to a new role as President of the New York State Bar Association. During his send-off, Chancellor Young presented a statement recognizing Vice-Chancellor Brown for his nine years of dedicated service.
Following this, a motion was made to appoint Interim Commissioner Rosa to New York State Commissioner of Education. This motion was raised by Regent Chin, seconded by Vice-Chancellor Brown, and unanimously approved by the Board. Commissioner Rosa’s term will begin tomorrow, February 9th.
